Tenerife has the best climate in the world
Tenerife’s climate is unique: an eternal spring with mild and constant temperatures throughout the year that has led many experts and travellers to consider it the best climate in the world.
The Canary Islands enjoy pleasant summers and mild winters, with blue skies and almost permanent sunshine. Furthermore, temperatures vary very little throughout the year, making Tenerife a perfect destination to visit at any time.
Why does Tenerife have such good weather?
The secret lies in a unique combination of geographical and climatic factors:
🌬️ The trade winds, fresh and constant, which regulate temperatures and prevent extreme heat
🌊 The Canary Current, a cold ocean current that cools the environment
☁️ The Azores High, which blocks Atlantic storms for much of the year
🌍 The geographical position, at 28° north latitude, between the temperate European and tropical African climates
Together, these factors create a perfect balance that can barely be found anywhere else on the planet.
Temperatures in Tenerife
Coastal temperatures are mild and constant throughout the year:
📅 January average: 18°C
🌡️ August average: 24°C
📊 Annual average: 22°C
🌙 Day to night difference: only 7°C
In winter, while much of Europe endures freezing temperatures, Tenerife maintains an average of 18°C on the coast. In summer, however, maximum temperatures rarely exceed 27°C, far from the 37-40°C reached in other Mediterranean tourist destinations.
Additionally, in summer it barely rains. In winter, it rains an average of just 3 days per month.
More hours of sunshine than anywhere in Europe
Tenerife’s main tourist areas record more than 4,800 hours of sunshine per year — more than anywhere else in Europe. Therefore, this means long, bright and energetic days throughout the year.
When is the best time to visit Tenerife?
Although Tenerife’s weather is perfect at any time of year, each season has its own charm:
🌞 Summer (June – August): ideal for the beach, water sports and family activities. However, it is more crowded and expensive.
🍂 Autumn (September – November): excellent weather with fewer tourists and better prices. Additionally, it is highly recommended for outdoor activities.
❄️ Winter (December – February): perfect for hiking and excursions. Furthermore, in February the spectacular Tenerife Carnival fills the island with colour.
🌸 Spring (March – May): the quietest and most affordable season. Ideal for nature and outdoor routes.
